I love watching ALL dancers perform their art, but watching Sergei is an urgent Calling which must be answered. His movement and expression affects you physically & emotionally. I think zoning in on the face was an attempt to show the depth of HIS passion as well.

He didn’t think about quitting due to injuries, he decided to quit because he felt so constrained and restrained by the Royal Ballet, and he had a vision of ballet becoming very popular again, but no one took him seriously. Meanwhile he was doing the same ballets in the same roles over and over and over again. He felt like he had been training his whole life and if this was his reward, it wasn’t worth doing anymore. He had a meeting at the beach with his friend Jade, and asked him to choreograph his last dance. The result was Take Me to Church. I did a bunch of research about Baryshnikov and Nureyev, and guess what? When asked, they gave the same reasons for defecting that made Sergei want to quit I.e. trying to dance in a straight jacket. Each of them said he wanted to be free to work with different companies and choreographers (which I assumed they weren’t allowed to do in their contracts) and each spoke of the grind of performing the same roles again and again. They also each wanted to have their own company, and to do something to improve a dancer’s lot in life. well, Barishnikov directed the American Ballet Theater for several years and did start his own company. Nureyev created a fund to help aspiring young dancers . . . Sergei was able to finish his training because of that fund. Sergei has begun a company called “PoluninInk” and has started putting these ideas to work, learning as he grows. I too just love him to bits and hope the future is all roses for him! VERY VERY HAPPY to see Jade in this vid! He is Sergei’s best friend, school chum and choreographer as well as a fine dancer in his own right! Anyway, he choreographed this piece for Sergei, when Sergei told him he was quitting dance for good, and Sergei asked him to choreograph his last dance. Of course, Sergei performed it with his amazing virtuosity and emotion, however imho I feel that Jade has gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to all the fame and accolades given to this piece. This piece was directly responsible for bringing Sergei’s desire to dance back to him, and for this I am thankful to them both! Some of the people mentioned in the credits had very little or no obvious real contribution to the piece or the video, while the brilliant guy who CREATED the piece gets ignored! WTF???

This man fascinates me; his dancing is so compelling to watch. It's easy enough to read too much into a performance, so perhaps I am when I say he moves as if he's being pursued by his devils, or that his soul is in torment, that the only way to hold them at bay is to dance as he did here. That's how I feel about all of his contemporary dances.

The painted Rosseau foiliage was fantastic! This was an amazing routine with top-quality moves. It is a shame the the movement were all chopped up in different perspectives. Not saying it was bad, just saying that this is a very different experience than if you were watching it live in the theatre. Does anyone one know of there I a version of this film without all of the collage edits? - The Acoustic Rabbit Hole

Согласна не хватает тонкости, уязвимости этого молодого цвеькм, даже удивления своим совершенством. Здесь другой характер. Все-таки надо выбирать роли, кот. Соответствуют не только физическим возможностям, кот уникальны ПОЛУНИНА.

Танцовщик уникальный, силовой. Со "своей" душой. нарцисс у него молодой и сильный от начала и до конца. - не хватило тонкости. Это цветок особый.

Sad that such an utterly brilliant performance was so badly filmed. But I'm grateful to see it at all. I think he is the premiere dancer of our time, and possibly of any time. Although it's hard to find his current work

Tattoos are a personal choice, but I’ll be glad if/when the fad is over. Gorgeous man, but for me the tats are distracting from the performance.
